RE: Please Turn Down The Television!

I agree. I also wish people would keep the dogs at home, too. Everyone I know who takes a dog camping must think that just because they like their dog that everyone else likes it too. It's not cute when they bark, it's annoying. Many dog owners tend to block out their dog's barking because they are used to it. I am not used to it and I can't block it out.
Sorry. Rant over.
Now tell me how hateful I am.

RE: Who did you see camping this weekend?

5 boats on a big lake that is normally so croweded, it's hard to enjoy a holiday weekend. Empty campsites that are typically full. Talked to local carryout owners that usually make bundles during Memorial Day weekend (catering to both locals and travelers) and they each claimed to be at about half of last year's business.

RE: RV storage parking space too small?

Why are you asking us? Ask the lot owner/manager.
However, I would let you have an extra 3' of space if you paid me $145 per month just to park your rig. Wow! I'm glad to live in the boonies where I can park at home for free.

I have always put peanut butter on the graham crackers, so it is essentially the same taste. And yes, it's better.

RE: I'm not really breaking my own rule but.........

For optimal fuel economy (on any vehicle) it is better to observe the tachometer than the speedometer. Taxing the engine is what burns the fuel, not driving at a particular speed. Keep the tach as low as practically possible.

RE: Would you buy a diesel again (second time)

In the long run, it is still cheaper to own a diesel. Diesel fuel costs more than gasoline but the fuel economy (more mpg), maintenance costs, longevity, and residual value of the truck more than outweigh the added costs per gallon.
So yes, I would buy a diesel again. I could never get 20 mpg from a gas engine. I could never pull what I pull with a gas engine (still getting good fuel economy). Plus, I like the sound :)
Just wait. The cost of gasonline and the cost of diesel fuel will equalize. Then what are the ship jumpers who sold out for a gas truck gonna do?

RE: fuel at 4.89

I disagree, Jack. You were right the first time. We are divided as never before. The key difference between then and now is that too few are willing to actually fight for a cause. I believe that not only the Civil War but also The Revolutionary War would not take place in today's cultural environment. Faced with similar circumstances today, we would continue to be colonial subjects of the Queen and maybe end up speaking French or German. We're already forced to speak Spanish (or press 1 for English).

RE: fuel at 4.89

I sure wish that we could put a stop to oil futures trading. It would help keep the cost of fuel more realisitic.

RE: Cleaning the rubber roof: Yipes

Golf shoes are okay as long as you have the metal cleats in them, the plastic ones just don't provide as much gripping power.

RE: Have you seen this

Nope, I have never seen such a sight. We do things as a team.
However, had I witnessed the event, I would be compelled to assist my camping neighbor instead of watching him work alone.

RE: fishing and mushrooms II

Guess I'd better close the office and head to the woods. The 'shrooms are usually eaten by the deer and turkeys before I get to them.

RE: Must see's on the way to the Ohio Valley Rally?

I second the Mammoth Cave thing, with a stop at Guntown Mountain.
Montgomery Inn is a great place to eat World Famous ribs in Cinci. They have a high brow location on the Ohio River (the boathouse) and the original in Montgomery, OH.
Don't forget to stop by King's Island. It is a must see and could be a 2 day event, depending upon the size of your family.
The Air Force Museum is a bargain at twice the price.

RE: Can You use Your Rig Self Contained?

If I wanted to "rough it" I would stay home. I enjoy going places where they have running water, electricity, telephones, and television. Some people have RVs because they like being able to go to the serene countryside. Some of us live there and have RVs to experience civilization and having neighbors.

RE: hitch and a lifted truck

You'll have to measure to be sure. I have a stock Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 and use a 6" drop for most towing use. However, I have pulled an enclosed trailer that required only a 4" drop and a specialty trailer that needed only a 2" drop.
Again, measure to be sure. Remember that your rear suspension will likely sag under the load.

RE: Tow/Haul on Dodge 6.7L Auto

If you can't tell the difference, you must be in flatland territory, where the difference is negligible. In these hills, tow/haul is practically mandatory whenever hooked.

RE: 5th wheel Antenne TV crank handle

Mine did the same thing. It has a set screw that somehow came out. I can replace the handle for about $10 but I hope I can find a screw cheaper ;)
